Streetcar tracks exposed near the corner of Lawrence and Wolcott. Photo by The Man On Five 4/9/14
If you’ve been on Lawrence Avenue recently, you may have noticed that they are doing some streetscaping which has left a few areas where old streetcar tracks are visible under layers of pavement. It appeared as though they were removing the last few pieces of exposed metal Wednesday afternoon under where the new islands will be in the median of the street but leaving the rest of the track there.
My grandfather was just recently telling me stories about riding the Lawrence Avenue streetcar from Albany Park to Uptown every day before WWII on his way to work as a teenager.

You’re all wrong. This is the best version.
Chicago native, comedian, writer and director, Harold Ramis has died at age 69.
Probably most famous for his role as Egon Spengler in the Ghostbusters movies and as a member of the Second City television show, he is also credited for writing or directing some of my favorite movies: Stripes, Groundhog Day , Animal House , National Lampoon’s Vacation, Meatballs and Caddyshack.
The photo is from his senior year at Senn High School, 1962, Chicago.
